1. Privacy policy

  1. The Hatena Website ("Site") is operated by Hatena Inc. ("Company"). The minimum amount of information is collected from Users in order to operate the services ("Service") provided on this Site by the Company. The Company is committed to safeguarding the privacy of Users (both registered users and guest users of the Services). Following is the Company's privacy policy related to personal information.

2. Collection of private information

  1. When you register for and use the Services, the Company collects personal identifying information including name, e-mail address, date of birth, gender, and zip or postal code. The information collected will be referred to hereafter as "User Registration Information."
  2. The Company automatically gathers certain information about you, such as your Internet Protocol (IP) address, information saved in cookies, websites you have browsed, and your machine data, and stores it on its server. 3. How your private information is used

  1. The Company uses the information it collects in the following ways:
    1. When the User uses our Services, such as receiving e-mail, and filling out surveys.
    2. To display contents that may be of interest to the User, and deliver more relevant information.

4. Sharing and disclosing your private information

  1. The Company will not disclose your personal information except under the following circumstances:

    2. The Company may disclose your personal information as may be required to operate the Services such as displaying your information on the access log.
    3. When you have given consent to share your information with the Company business partners and sponsors for the purpose of carrying out such business.
    4. The Company may disclose your personal information as may be required by law or court order.
    5. In order to protect the Company's rights, property and Services when there is reasonable doubt that a User has violated the User's Agreement.
    6. To protect a User or a third party from physical or financial harm and other emergencies when it is not possible to get consent from the User in a timely manner.

5. How to view, edit or remove your personal information

  1. As a general rule, the Company allows Users to view, edit, or remove their own User Registration Personal Information by going to My Hatena after login. When sending e-mail, your identity will be confirmed. You can also subscribe or unsubscribe from the e-mail magazine.

  3. In the event that a User cancels membership, after the passage of a fixed period of time, all of the User Registration Personal Information, except the Username, will be deleted. Before a modification is made, the Company backs up and retains the User Registration Personal Information in order to prevent problems due to processing failure. The Company also retains information for a period of time after cancellation in the event it requires investigation into alleged violation of the Rules. User Registration Personal Information will never be used on the Services after cancellation. Once a Username is created, it will never be deleted in order to prevent any future confusion.

6. How we protect your private information

  1. Your User Registration Personal Information can only be viewed by you after correctly entering your Username and Password. Other Users or a third party cannot view this information in order to protect your privacy.
  2. SSL code is used to transmit data in order to protect sensitive data during transmission.
  3. Except for authorized personnel, Company employees are prohibited from accessing User Registration Personal Information. This information is securely stored in a safe location, and will never be removed from the area.
  4. All Company employees are bound by a confidentiality agreement, and must observe the Security Policy set by the Company.

7. Cookies

  1. The Company uses cookies to keep track of your login information. Cookies work in the following way:
    1. When a User logs in to the Service, a cookie is sent to his/her browser in order to identify the User.
    2. If the User's computer is set to accept cookies, the cookie will be saved on the computer.
    3. If the User's computer is set to accept cookies, the server receives information stored in the cookie from the User's browser. In order to protect your privacy, we only have access to cookies set by our own Site.

    1. Antenna Display function included in websites being viewed
    2. Bookmark Display function included in websites being viewed
    3. Diary Display function referring to websites being viewed
  3. The User may remove these functions from the Toolbar at any time.
  4. The Company gathers basic information from websites being viewed, which is commonly saved on the server. This information includes the following:
    1. The URL of the website being viewed.
    2. Your IP address.
    3. Time.
    4. Browser type.

10. Policy limitations

  1. The Company is not responsible for voluntarily posted information, which may be collected and abused by a third party.
  2. Our Services contain links to other sites. Unless otherwise stated, these third-party sites are independent from our Services and are bound by their own privacy policies. The Company is in no way responsible for the activities or policies of such sites. When linking to another site, you should review the privacy policy stated on that site.

11. Changes to our privacy policy

  1. The Company reserves the right to modify this privacy policy in part or in its entirety from time to time. If any major changes are made, they will be posted on our Services so Users can easily be made aware of such changes.
  2. If at any time the Company modifies or adds to its application purposes, the User will have the right to utilize or ignore the modified or added application.
